• Pre-School and Lower Primary Level:
  • Weekend tutor for the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC) Supervised Homework Group, supporting Primary 1-6 students in English and Mathematics. Created engaging learning aids to reinforce foundational concepts.
  • Full-time tutor for Pre-School and Lower Primary English for 1.5 years. Have helped students from pre-reading level to independent reading and writing. e.g Primary 1 student improved from barely passing spelling to scoring on average above 88 in his weekly spelling tests. Have also worked with an international student to strengthen foundation in English and writing language through the learning of complex phonics patterns to strengthen his proficiency.
• Junior College Level: Former H1 and H2 History teacher, responsible for lesson planning, conducting 1-on-1 and group remedial sessions, creating worksheets, and marking assignments.

Approach for Phonics & Reading:

My phonics / reading instruction is grounded in the Science of Reading (SoR) methodology from the United States. This research-backed approach focuses on building strong, independent reading skills – moving beyond pure memorisation to equip learners with the ability to decode any word in the English language confidently. Lessons progress from letter sounds to three-letter words, vowel teams, and more complex word structures.

This method is a blend of:

• Synthetic Phonics – Teaching letter sounds and blending techniques to decode words.
• Analytical Phonics – Identifying spelling patterns to improve word recognition.
  

What My Rates Include:

1. Regular Progress Updates – Parents receive ongoing insights into their child's development.
   
2. Comprehensive Learning Materials –

• For pre-school and phonics lessons, all worksheets are provided.
• For primary school students, recommended assessment books aligned with the school syllabus will be discussed with parents (one-time reimbursement applies).

3. Leveled Decodable Readers – Students will use targeted reading materials that match their phonics level and current learning stage. As they progress, I will introduce curated library books to nurture a love for reading, incorporating 15-20 minutes of guided reading in each lesson.
